Universal description of viscoelasticity with foliation preserving diffeomorphisms
A universal description is proposed for generic viscoelastic systems with a single relaxation time. Foliation preserving diffeomorphisms are introduced as an underlying symmetry which naturally interpolates between the two extreme limits of elasticity and fluidity. The symmetry is found to be powerful enough to determine the dynamics in the first order of strains. E-mail address: [email protected]...
متن کاملA New Measure of Instability and Topological Entropy of Area-preserving Twist Diffeomorphisms
We introduce a new measure of instability of areapreserving twist diffeomorphisms, which generalizes the notions of angle of splitting of separatrices, and flux through a gap of a Cantori. As an example of application, we establish a sharp > 0 lower bound on the topological entropy in a neighbourhood of a hyperbolic, unique action-minimizing fixed point, assuming only no topological obstruction...
متن کاملArea-preserving Surface Diffeomorphisms
We prove some generic properties for Cr , r = 1, 2, . . . ,∞, areapreserving diffeomorphism on compact surfaces. The main result is that the union of the stable (or unstable) manifolds of hyperbolic periodic points are dense in the surface. This extends the result of Franks and Le Calvez [8] on S to general surfaces. The proof uses the theory of prime ends and Lefschetz fixed point theorem.
متن کاملEntropy operator for continuous dynamical systems of finite topological entropy
In this paper we introduce the concept of entropy operator for continuous systems of finite topological entropy. It is shown that it generates the Kolmogorov entropy as a special case. If $phi$ is invertible then the entropy operator is bounded with the topological entropy of $phi$ as its norm.
متن کاملTopological Conjugacy of Circle Diffeomorphisms
The classical criterion for a circle diffeomorphism to be topologically conjugate to an irrational rigid rotation was given by A. Denjoy [1]. In [5] one of us gave a new criterion. There is an example satisfying Denjoy's bounded variation condition rather than [5]'s Zygmund condition and vice versa. This paper will give the third criterion which is implied by either of the above criteria.
